Trending discussions about the continuous neglect of developmental projects, policies and programmes by the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) is uncalled for as a country.
Government and political parties are elected into offices to serve and deliver effectively on their mandates as in social contract between the state and the people. Sierra Leone had in the last decade successfully propelled itself further in terms of development under the leadership of former President Ernest Bai Koroma and All People’s Congress (APC)-led administration. A solid foundation President Julius Maada Bio and his failed SLPP cabal would have started with to continue with developmental aspiration of the country.
Unfortunately for the country, national development may not have formed part of this government’s agenda, but as an ambition nation, with resilient and zealous people, always yearning for development to its highest peak, the Bio leadership should have firmly incorporated if not what he inherited from his predecessors, but a transformative national development plan into his programmes and policy activities for the general good like his immediate predecessor did.
Though the people have and are missing development, transformative national progress is completely absent in governance patterns of president Bio due to his undemocratic attitude, keep reversing the country.
This is preventing the country from progressing further as the SLPP and president Bio have lost focus on national development ventures and as such he couldn’t in any way complement the enduring legacies of the last APC led administration. Instead his regime its entire first blackmailing the last government and former president Koroma.
Retrospection on president Bio-SLPP’s last four to five years misrule, it is unimaginable that nothing tangible could place on the table of Sierra Leoneans in terms of basic socioeconomic wants and services such as pipe burn water, electricity, healthcare public transport, good road network, viable agricultural productivity with potentials of impacting positively on cost of food and essential commodities in Freetown and the country at large. The physical absent of all these are causing endless suffering of the masses.
The SLPP and President Bio completely disregard national development. That is not a surprise as the SLPP itself as the oldest political entity in Sierra Leone is not developmentally oriented and lacks visible legacies. Rather, throughout Bio’s five years misrule, the leadership of the ruling party and the president is fully engaged in wasteful spending of state resources for his personal gains at the detriments of vulnerable citizens and widespread hates through ethnic and regional divisions which is why the SLPP is on record for its developmental woes.
Since the days of the National Provisional Ruling Council, unto the era Alhaji Dr Ahmed Kabbah led-SLPP rule to date, there is still noting to show as mark of the legacy of the SLPP. As a matter of fact, Bio left in 1996 without one and Kabbah also left the country dry in 2007. There is nothing like a presidential or his leadership legacies. So one wonders how he would be remembered.
With these few lessons from the Kabbah and five years misrule of president Julius Maada Bio characterized by wasteful spending of government money, both regimes teach Sierra Leoneans that the SLPP and President Bio have reversed the country beyond the 1992 era as indicative of trending reversal of development programmes and activities in the last five years.
