Being a single mom is pretty much as tough as it’s cracked up to be for so many women in Sierra Leone. As a means of easing that burden, Jansuccess Network Sierra Leone, a non-profitable organization empowered eight single mothers at the Kissy Brook Community in the east of Freetown.
The women during a colorful ceremony on the 18th December, 2022, graduated from a month training on Cake and Pastry.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Jansuccess Network Sierra Leone, Ambassador Janet Mumgbay Zizer explained that her inspiration came as a result of her being raised by a single mother and how her mother strives to educate her through her skills as a hairdresser, so she thought of giving skills to other single mom as a means of supporting their families insert.
Jansuccess Network, she went on has been in existence since 2019 and has been organizing events for women and girls to build their capacity in diverse ways such as career building, school to school sensitization on the Child Rights Act among others.
Jansuccess Network whose motto is: “A Safer Space for all women and girls” was established by a young vibrant youth who is passionate in Safe Guiding women and girls from all forms of Harm.
Jansuccess Network also organizes conferences, Girls empowerment programs, community outreach, skills workshops to transform the lives of children; and also to help them to engage on media activities, schools and community sensitization on Hygiene, Education, Child Rights, and Health Awareness Raising among others.
Jansuccess Network’s programs helped children and young women to realize their potentials through leadership, communication and mentorship which build their capacity to become self-independent so that they can participate in national activities that change their lives and their communities.
According to Amb Janet Mumgbay Zizer, their goal is to help secure a good, quality education for the most vulnerable children in communities, to campaign for change to improve Sierra Leonean youths, women and children’s lives and also create access to safe drinking water, education and healthcare facilities for all in the communities.
“We also focus on promoting environmental sanitation and hygiene for school, and local communities through low cost people entered and sustainable approach.
To promote sustainable rural and community development, the protection of life variety and natural ecosystems, and the wise and ethical use of natural ecosystems,” she said.
She furthered that she has spent all her live at the Kissy Brook community and majority of the populace are single mothers and she knew how it’s feels to be raised by a single mother.
“Therefore, the training helps them attached themselves were they could have an income to support their families insert,” she pointed.
Amb Janet Mumgbay Zizer disclosed that besides Cake and Pastry, Jan-Success Network will also introduce other causes such as Gara Tie, Makeup and Art and Craft for more empowerment to women and girls.
Mariama Haku one of the beneficiaries, described Jansuccess Network as a dream changer. She explained how she was just roaming within the community pointlessly but the intervention of Jan-Success Network she was able to earn some skill.
Mamusu Sheku another beneficiary said Jansuccess Network has transformed their lives for good and they hope to develop what they have learnt.
Foday Conteh, one of the witnesses of the graduation, was so impressed about the transformation of the women. She commended her and encouraged her to continue the good work for the women.
