Hundreds of homeless fire victims at Susan’s Bay in the east of Freetown have expressed their dissatisfaction and frustrations over the registration process currently being undertaken by the National Disaster Agency.

The fire victims said that most of them are not registered due to unknown individuals who claim to be residents of the Susan’s Bay fire disaster area.

Speaking to this reporter, a victim who identified himself as Abdul Salam Sesay said he owed two makeshift stores which he rented two different tenants and none of them were able to remove goods from the stores. He explained that they both lost their properties worth millions of Leones.

Sesay recalled that on the day of the incident he went out on fishing when he heard a loud voice shouting fire and by the time he returned home his entire place was bunt down.

He blamed the disaster on the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority for sending in heavy current which ignited the 9th January, 2023 in Tripoli community in Susan’s Bay.

“The heavy destroyed my properties and dwelling houses, but up till now I have not been able to get registered”, he cried, and added that no life was lost in the incident though properties were consumed by the fire.

He called on government and humanitarian organizations to come to their aid as they are now in dire need of help which according to them, they have nothing in their possession and they have school going children whose uniform has been burnt down.
