The sacked and disgraced Company Secretary at Rokel Commercial Bank, Margaret L Davies appears unrelenting in her pursuit to blackmail and bring down the hard won reputation of the Bank, its Board of Directors and the Managing Director. Her latest move was a press conference she held through her legal representative earlier today in Freetown. Unfortunately, for Mrs Davies, several of the pressmen present questioned her sincerity over her allegations of sexual harrasment and work place intimidation. Some of the journalists present were visibly annoyed that she could continue to make claims that have been discovered to be substantially baseless.
We hold no brief for the Rokel Commercial Bank Management but we equally have an obligation to ensure people who have invested their time and energies to build our national institutions are not maligned by individuals with a proclivity for byzantine shenanigans.
Why She was Sacked
Contrary to Margaret’s claims, we have discovered that she was never sacked because of her sexual harrasment claims against the Managing Director. In fact the issue of sexual harassment was long dealt with by the bank’s Board which had instituted special investigations and had come out with findings that clearly vindicated the Managing Director.
The only reason for her dismissal was gross insubordination. Apparently, she had developed such a massive ego that she had the audacity to take the bank’s Board to court because the bank, as part of its normal routine procedure took a decision to relocate two staff members to other departments. She led a law suit against the Board Chairman and Managing Director as the first appellate even when the decision to transfer those staff did not involve her. As if this wasn’t enough, she persistently breached the oath of secrecy of the bank by copying correspondences to several parties outside the bank.
