Bo, Sierra Leone — In a significant development for the southern city of Bo, Africell Sierra Leone, in collaboration with the Bo City Council, has successfully completed the beautification of the New London roundabout. This initiative marks a major step forward in the city’s ongoing efforts to enhance its infrastructure and aesthetics.

The beautification project was officially commissioned during a ceremony attended by key stakeholders, including Africell’s Southeast Manager, Khalil Fawaz. Speaking at the event, Fawaz reaffirmed the telecom giant’s commitment to supporting local communities and municipal efforts across the country.

“It is not surprising to see Africell joining hands with communities and local governments to make positive changes,” Fawaz remarked. “The Bo City Council is working hard to beautify this city, and Africell is proud to contribute to these efforts. We are committed to making Bo, Sierra Leone’s second-largest city, the best city upcountry.”

Fawaz acknowledged that much of Africell’s focus has traditionally been on Freetown, but he emphasized the company’s new commitment to extending its efforts to other parts of the country. He announced Africell’s plans to support the beautification of four additional roundabouts in Bo, including those at Bonjon Street, Shellmingo, Mahei Boima/Sewa Roads, and Mobil.

On behalf of the Bo City Council, Mr. Powell expressed his gratitude to Africell, stating, “We look forward to seeing the completion of the other roundabouts as part of our broader development agenda.” He reiterated the council’s dedication to pursuing developmental projects that will enhance the city’s infrastructure and overall appeal.

Moses Massaquoi, a representative of the Motor Drivers’ Union, also praised the initiative, noting the positive impact of the roundabout’s beautification on road safety. “Drivers have long been concerned about the dangers posed by the New London roundabout, especially for those unfamiliar with Bo. The protective perimeter now in place is a welcome improvement,” he said, expressing the union’s appreciation for the collaboration between Africell and the Bo City Council.

Mayor Musa, in his address, highlighted the importance of the project as a symbol of partnership and community spirit. “It is with immense pride and gratitude that I stand before you today to celebrate this significant milestone in our city’s journey towards growth and beautification,” he stated. “This remarkable project epitomizes the power of partnership and community spirit.”

The Mayor also reflected on his long-standing vision for the development of Bo, expressing his satisfaction that his dreams are becoming a reality through effective leadership and collaboration. He urged the community, especially the Motor Drivers’ Union, to maintain the roundabout and ensure it remains a clean and welcoming space.

As Bo continues to evolve, the collaboration between Africell and the Bo City Council serves as a shining example of how public-private partnerships can drive meaningful change in Sierra Leone’s urban centers.
