Africell has reasserted its dominance as the biggest mobile network with the launch of its Fifth Generation, 5G network in Sierra Leone. At a well-attended cocktail launch held Thursday evening, 26th October, 2023 at the Sea View Lunge, New City Hall in Freetown, Africell’s Chief Executive Officer, Shadi Gerjawi said the new 5G network is a testament to Africell’s commitment in working to transform lives through technology.

He recalled how the company started with the Second Generation (2G) network but gradually graduated to a Fourth Generation (4G) network that made mobile communication a better experience in terms of speed and content transmission. The evolution to the new 5G network, according to Shardi shows he is a passionate believer in the transformative power of technology. “The 5G is 100 times faster than the 4G.Africel has risen to the occasion…has been instrumental in bridging the digital divide…,” he said.

The app, can be used to pay utility bills to EDSA, WAEC DSTV, mercury as well as Post-paid transactions.  It can also among other things, carry out bank to wallet and wallet to bank transactions, merchant payments as well as offers free SMS service for customers. Marian pledged to apply the skills and knowledge she has acquired to make a positive impact.
