Freetown, May 24, 2024 – In a significant stride towards digital transformation, Afrimoney has officially launched a partnership agreement with the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) to enable water bill payments through Afrimoney.

The launch event took place at the SALWACO head office in Tower Hill, Freetown.

The Managing Director of SALWACO, Ing. George Lamin Vandi, emphasized the primary objective of this partnership is to optimize revenue collection and enhance service delivery for the people of Sierra Leone. “This initiative will reduce administrative burdens, lower the carbon footprint, provide easy payment access, increase revenue mobilization, ensure sustainability, and boost customer satisfaction,” said Vandi.

He further highlighted that this is part of a broader effort to modernize the company and embrace digital trends.

Dr. Emmanuel Mannah, the Director General of the Electricity and Water Regulations Commission, noted the benefits of using the Afrimoney mobile system for tariff setting, revenue generation, and collection. He encouraged other government entities to adopt similar digital solutions.

Afrimoney’s Managing Director, Martison Obeng Agyei, described water as an essential part of daily life and praised the seamless service provided through the partnership. “Customers can use the short code *161 *2 *11 *11# to pay their water bills and will receive a digital receipt. Their payment details will be updated in the system even if their phone is lost,” Agyei explained. He assured that the service is available 24/7, offering convenience and reliability.

Dr. Sao-Kpato Hannah Max-Kyne, Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, underscored the Government’s commitment to digitalization. “This partnership demonstrates the government’s focus on ensuring every citizen has access to safe, affordable, and clean water. Digitalization brings efficiency and transparency to SALWACO’s operations,” said Max-Kyne. She highlighted the elimination of administrative errors and encouraged other ministries to follow suit for improved institutional integrity and customer payment insights.

The event concluded with photographs of representatives from various sectors, marking a milestone in Sierra Leone’s journey towards digital transformation.
