In a move aimed at improving financial inclusion and enhancing operational efficiency, Afrimoney, one of Sierra Leone’s leading electronic money operators, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the non-governmental organization Street Child Sierra Leone.

During the signing ceremony, Alfred Joseph Lavalie, Corporate Sales Manager of Afrimoney, emphasized that the partnership aligns with the Bank of Sierra Leone’s call for greater financial inclusion across the country. “As a mobile money operator, we are responding to this call by providing solutions that will make services more accessible and efficient, especially for institutions like Street Child Sierra Leone,” Lavalie stated.

He further noted that Street Child has maintained a long-standing relationship with Afrimoney’s parent company, Africell, making the transition into mobile money services a natural progression. “Given the nature of their work, which involves money transactions for their beneficiaries, it makes sense to incorporate them into the Afrimoney platform to streamline operations and improve service delivery,” Lavalie added.

Lavalie highlighted that Afrimoney’s objective is to partner with various organizations, including NGOs, to provide seamless services that enhance business efficiency. He stressed that such collaborations are part of Afrimoney’s broader strategy to ensure institutions can operate more effectively, while also contributing to financial inclusion.

Keifala Kargbo, Country Director of Street Child Sierra Leone, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, describing it as a significant milestone in their ongoing relationship with Africell. “This is a big step forward for us,” Kargbo said, noting that one of the challenges his organization has faced is the physical handling of large sums of cash for distribution to beneficiaries.

“With Afrimoney platform, our staff no longer need to travel with hundreds of millions of leones in cash. This partnership ensures the safety and security of both our staff and beneficiaries, while also making the distribution process more transparent,” Kargbo explained.

He went on to highlight the positive impact of the collaboration, noting that Afrimoney has assured its commitment to providing all necessary services to facilitate the smooth operation of Street Child’s activities in the country.

The partnership is expected to greatly enhance the efficiency of Street Child’s financial transactions, benefiting both the organization and the thousands of Sierra Leoneans they support.
