The Independent Media Commission (IMC) has commenced it districts level tour with the singular purpose of popularization of the Independent Media Commission (IMC) Elections Coverage and Reporting/Print and Electronic Media Regulations 2022 in the Northern Region.The Independent Media Commission (IMC), with funds from the Irish Aid through the project: “Expanding the Democratic Space in Sierra Leone – Media Capacity Enhancement to Promote Peaceful Elections, Women’s Participation, Public Interest and Conflict Mitigation”.
The Commission started its popularization on Friday 25th May 2023 on Elections Coverage and Reporting Regulations 2022 and the IMC Print and Electronic Media Regulations 2022 in Kabala for Koinadugu and Falaba, Kono, Tonkolili and Bombali Districts.
According to the Press Release, the popularization exercise is expected to continue in Bo, Bonthe; Moyamba and Pujehun Districts in the Southern Region, Kenema and Kailahun Districts in the Eastern Region, Port Loko, Kambia and Karene Districts in the North-West Region and Western Area Rural and Western Area Urban.
The workshops, according to the release, will attract participants from the media, various political parties, Civil Society groups, Inter-Religious Council, the security sector and stakeholders within communities.
The project which was funded by the Government of Ireland through a consortium comprising The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), Independent Radio Network (IRN) and Inter-Religious Council is part of the Irish Embassy’s commitment towards the conduct of free, fair, credible, inclusive and peaceful Elections in Sierra Leone on June 24th, 2023.
