On December 14, 2023, the Sierra Leone government held the launching ceremony of the National Public Health Agency (NPHA). H.E President Julius Maada Bio attended and announced the official launch of NPHA. Chinese Ambassador Wang Qing was invited to attend and deliver a speech. The First Lady, the Chief Minister, the Minister of Health and Sanitation, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, etc. attended, and WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus delivered a video speech.
Ambassador Wang Qing congratulated the Sierra Leonean government on its new achievements in strengthening the construction of its public health system. He introduced the fruitful results of bilateral cooperation since China dispatched a medical team to Sierra Leone in 1973 to launch medical and health cooperation between the two countries. He said that China has always upheld the vision of building a community of common health of mankind, actively carry out international health cooperation, and will continue to be committed to expanding and deepening medical and health cooperation between China and Sierra Leone, and promoting the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Sierra Leone.
President Bio thanked all international development partners for their support and wished the NPHA to build on the remarkable health achievements that Sierra Leone has made in recent years and make persistent efforts to improve the country’s overall health security and benefit the people of Sierra Leone.
