The main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) has last Friday 24 March 2023 debunked lies being spread by the governing Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) in the South and East of the country.

The governing SLPP operatives are rumoured to have been using horrible graphic pictures of the infamous August 10, 2022, protest, spreading lies about the APC that if the party wins it will kill all south-easterners and they should therefore not vote the APC come June 24.

The misleading SLPP information emerged few days after the release of separate damning reports on gross Human Rights abuses published the European Union, the United States Department and Amnesty International that have so far exposed state sponsored extra-judicial killings of innocent civilians under the watch of the SLPP presidential candidate, incumbent President Julius Maada Bio.

In a bid to divert public and international partners’ attentions from the critical accounts of Human Rights abuses, SLPP operatives took upon themselves went round the two regions with a misleading clip, informing people in those geopolitical areas that they should not vote the APC, because if they mistake to vote in the APC, when they take up governance the APC will kill south, easterners.

Refuting SLPP lies in voice note recorded by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Sidi Yayah Tunis said that “We are not killers. The APC does not believe in divisive politics and that is why our last administration of former president Dr Ernest Bai Koroma distributed national developmental programmes and activities across the country”.

Alhaji Tunis recalled that even in Kailahun where former president Koroma and his entourage were attacked by SLPP gangs, during his presidential campaign in 2007, benefited hugely from the developmental programmes of his government. He pointed out that the APC does not discriminate nor do the party being selective in the distributions and allocations of national development projects and activities.

The APC NPS therefore reassured all including south and easterners that. “Nobody will be chasing anybody for anything. Nobody will be killed. We are not on records for killings”. The SLPP is the only party with dented records of killings and gross Human Rights abuses.

He informed that all those who took party in killing that have taken place in the last five years under the watch of President Bio shall be paying for their roles in those rights violations that led to the loss of the lives of other innocent Sierra Leoneans.

Alhaji Tunis disclosed that so many Human Rights and extra-judicial killings have taken place in the country, adding that there is no need for government to have taken the lives of people, when everybody has the rights exercise their rights freely without fear.
