Over 200 media professionals yesterday, Wednesday 25th March 2026 attended the “Chop and Chat” Media Engagement – a flagship corporate event organized by Sierra Leone’s premier mobile money solutions, Afrimoney. The event saw the official launch of Afrimoney’s revolutionary “Tap 2 Pay” card – a new digital payment method that lets people pay for goods and services by simply tapping the cards on a POS terminal.
Billed as the largest gathering of media professionals since the beginning of this year, the event brought together major players in the country’s media industry to also discuss Afrimoney’s mobile money services and how these services would translate into opportunities for business growth and improved service delivery.
Consequently, the engagement apprised members of the Fourth Estate on the role digital financial services like Afrimoney play in driving economic growth and development.
According to Afrimoney’s Marketing Director, John Konteh, the Tap to Pay card offers quick and seamless transactions with a single tap that brings comfort and a feel-good factor to the customer.
“Today we are leaving our footprints in the sands of time…at Afrimoney, we do not only innovate and sell products to make profit, we also place our subscribers at the center of our business. That is why this new tap to pay card has been specifically designed to provide comfort, safety, durability and reliability.”
Afrimoney’s CEO, Martison Obeng-Agyeiw in a PowerPoint presentation introduced the Tap 2 Pay card to journalist reiterating that the new product would enhance customer experience and strengthen the foundation for cashless transactions in Sierra Leone.
“Today we are giving you these new cards to let you experience, first-hand how they work as well as get your feedback on them. We also believe you will feel obligated to spread the good news in Sierra Loene and beyond” he said.
Also present at the event was Africell CEO and Chief Media Officer who recounted on his company’s special relationship with the media through various partnerships and sponsorship programmes.
Other notable speakers at the Afrimoney Chop and Chat media engagement were the President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists, Alhaji Manika Kamara and National Outreach Coordinator and Head of Strategic Communications Unit in the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, Abubakarr Joe Sesay.
