On Saturday, 10th June 2023, the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) Vice Presidential Candidate, Hon Chernor Ramadan Maju Bah (Chericoco), presented a sympathy purse to the family of Retired Brigadier Albert Yamba Kargbo as an expression of solidarity and condolence (cry berin). The retired senior military officer recently lost his mother, Ya Marie Kargbo (nee Jalloh) in Yele, Gbonkolenken Chiefdom, Tonkolili.
Accompanied by the APC leadership of Constituency 052, and other members of the APC family in Tonkolili, Hon Chernor Maju Bah informed the bereaved family that he was visiting to console them on behalf of the APC, adding that the Retired Brigadier who’s now out of the country, had served his country diligently and was a key figure in the country’s security apparatus.
Poignantly, the APC presidential candidates encouraged the family to remain strong and celebrate the life of their late matriarch because from what he learned, she was a woman of virtue and a strong pillar in and outside her family circle. The late Ya Marie Kargbo was the wife of the late A.Y. Kargbo, a prominent educationist who later served as Chairman of the Public Service Commission.
Hon Chernor Bah also visited and sympathized with the family of a 118-year-old veteran of the dominant Seventh Day Adventist Church in Yele-Gbonkolenken, Pa Moses Bangura. Many believed he was the oldest man in Tonkolili.
It is refreshing and very reassuring that even in the heat of political campaign, the leaders of the main opposition could still make time to demonstrate care and sympathy for their fellow compatriots. In difficult times like this, Sierra Leoneans need leaders with the human touch who are sensitive to sorrow, pain suffering.
