The Government of the People’s Republic of China through the embassy in Sierra Leone has recently reaffirmed willingness to strengthen educational corporation and human capital development for the well-being of children of Sierra Leone.
The commitment on Wednesday 13 December 2023 was registered by the Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, His Excellency Wang Qing, during his keynote address at the 2023 Ambassador’s Bursary Award ceremony held at the Chinese Embassy in Freetown.
Speaking to guests including government dignitaries and foreign diplomats, Ambassador Wang Qing reiterated China’s preparedness to further strengthen educational assistance to Sierra Leone in a bid to enhance the well-being of children. He said his country is sets to make more contributions to the China-Africa community with a shared future.
Ambassador Wang Qing warmly congratulated primary and secondary pupils who received the 2023 bursary from the Chinese embassy. He described this year’s award as a new progress of cooperation between China and Sierra Leone in the fields of education, human capital development and other fields in recent years.
For his part, Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Conrad Sackey and the Deputy Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs, Hindowa Buakai Bindi thanked China for its long-term strong support for educational development and children’s undertakings in Sierra Leone.
They also expressed Sierra Leone’s willingness to strengthen the traditional ties of friendship with China and promote new progress in friendly cooperation in education and other fields.
The Chinese Ambassador Bursary Program will provide support to a total of 166 needy students in Sierra Leone in 2023. In their speeches, representatives of the sponsored students thanked the Embassy for its care and love, saying that they would be the inheritors of China-Sierra Leone friendship and the builder of China-Sierra Leone cooperation.
