Etterna Ship Management S.L. Ltd. has reported an unfortunate accident involving one of its crew members on board the M.V. Bai Bureh ferry. The incident occurred on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at approximately 13:50 hours, whiles the vessel was preparing to depart in line with the tidal schedule.
According to the press statement issued by the company on Wednesday October 15, 2025, the accident happened when Mr. Saidu Koroma, a sailor, accidentally got his right foot entangled in a rope under high tension as the vessel began to move. Despite immediate efforts by the crew to free him, the rope’s high tension resulted in a severe injury that led to the amputation of his right foot. The injured sailor was promptly evacuated by a speedboat to the Government Wharf Slipway and then transported for urgent medical attention.
Etterna Ship Management expressed regret for the accident and the inconvenience caused, stating that they are closely monitoring Mr. Koroma’s condition and providing all necessary support to ensure he receives the best possible care. The company is also conducting an internal safety review to determine any additional preventive measures to avoid similar incidents in the future.
“We sincerely regret this unfortunate accident and the inconvenience caused. Management is closely monitoring MR. KOROMA’S condition and providing all necessary support to ensure he receives the best possible care,” the company stated in the press release.
The statement concludes by thanking the public for their understanding and continued support as the company works to strengthen its operational safety procedures.
There is a separate mention of a Saidu Koroma in a different context in Goderich Community related to APC vigilantes, but based on the information provided in the press statement by Etterna Ship Management, this appears to be a different individual.
