Following the recent win of the Sierra Leone Men’s National team in the FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifiers over Djibouti by 2:1 at the EL Abdul Stadium in Morocco, Curtis Davies has been an impressive star man for the Leone Stars team.

In an impressive display, Davies scored the opening goal in Sierra Leone’s 2-1 victory over Djibouti. Curtis Davis’ landmark goal for Sierra Leone in the 12′ minutes and Gabriel Dadzie’s penalty in the 35′ minutes for Djibouti highlighted the passion exhibited by both teams in the first half of play.

It was the Cheltenham defender first goal for Leone Stars.

Cheltenham Town FC England-born Sierra Leone international Curtis Eugene Davies is the oldest player to score at a FIFA World Cup Qualifier match. Curtis Davies is debuted for the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone in an official FIFA World Cup Qualifiers at the age of 39 and the former England U21 defender has etched his name among the oldest scorers in the Qualifiers of the world’s biggest football tournament beating off the previous record held by Turkish Centre-Forward Burak Yilmaz at 36 years.

However, former Cameroonian international Roger Milla holds the record as the oldest scorer in the competition’s history at 42 years, with former Swedish international Gunnar Gren as the second oldest scorer at 37 years.

Quick check: Gunner Gren scored in the competition proper, whilst Curtis Davies scored in the qualifications round.

With Sierra Leone now sitting on 4 points in Group A, the anticipation builds for their next game against Burkina Faso.

It’s moments like Augustus Kargbo’s winning goal that make football the beautiful game it is, bringing nations together in a shared passion for the game .

With eyes set on building momentum, they are gearing up to take on Burkina Faso on June 10th in Mali.
