As the coronavirus pandemic continues to ravage Sierra Leone and World, Dr. Michael Olusegun Adedapo and Ms Sommah Musu Lansana both reside in the United Kingdom have provided assorted food items to over 1000 vulnerable people in Kailahun district eastern Sierra Leone.
Speaking to this writer on the 11th of May in Kaliahun district, both disclosed how effective they liaised with charity organizations in the UK for such gesture to help widows, young women, victims of domestic violence, their children, orphans and disables in the district.
They expressed concerns over sufferings of the people at a time like this when the coronavirus pandemic is ravaging the country, maintaining that the welfare of vulnerable people should be considered as very important, adding that the donation will go a long way in sustaining the vulnerable as the country continues to fight against COVID 19.
They said the donation is one of the many things they intend doing for both chiefdoms in Kailahun district during and after the pandemic.
They said the COVID 19 pandemic in Sierra Leone had great impacts on the socio-economic development of widows, disables, the aged and vulnerable children in the Kailahun district and called on other humanitarian organisations have it as a continuous gesture during this trying time.
They disclosed that funds used for such donation came from their meagre salaries to support badly needed beneficiaries, whom they believed will make things affordable for over 1000 vulnerable people in Kabalahun, Nyekehun and Maninahun in Segbwema town, promising extending similar gesture to other sections in the chiefdom and the district as a whole.
They however stressed that the donation is devoid of politics and have no intention of politicking before commending the Member of Parliament Hon Mary Wuyatta Songa of Constituency 008 for creating the enabling environment towards making the donation a conspicuous one.
Prior to the distributions of the food items, both admonished beneficiaries to strictly practice what the government through the ministry of health and sanitation and other stakeholders have put together in terms of the protective measures in order to curtail the spread of the coronavirus in the country.
They however promised collaborating with Hon. Mary Wuyatta Songa of Constituency 008 in facilitating developmental programmes to the constituency, chiefdom and district at large.
One of the beneficiaries Madam Musu Bayoh expressed appreciation to both philanthropists for their tireless efforts in supporting the less privileged in the district and prayed for more opportunities to come their ways.
