The main opposition, All People’s Congress (APC) party Campaign Chairman, Southern Region, Hon. Momudu Elogima Maligi together with party supporters and members were yesterday Tuesday 23 May 2023 reportedly attacked by the governing Sierra Leone’s People Party (SLPP) as they commenced campaign in the home district of President Julius Maada Bio.
A video making the rounds on social media showed the APC Campaign Chairman, Southern Region, Hon. Momudu Elogima Maligi was seriously manhandled, bodily damaged resulting to the spilling of blood on his head.
Voice massage emanated from the video accused SLPP party ‘hoodlums’ in the district.
APC’s Southern Region Chairman directly pointed accusing fingers at a group that labelled themselves as “SLPP Soja Team” in the district.
Sources reaching this FORUM from Bonthe revealed that the “SLPP Soja Team” did not speared opposition party members and their supporters from serious beaten with sticks and other harmful weapons, with the singular motive of preventing the APC party from carry out their campaign without interference and intimidation from ruling SLPP operatives.
Our lives are currently engulfed in perpetual fears as a result we have to seek solace to unknown destinations, Chairman Maligi said.
We are calling on the attention of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL), the international community and all those concerned to record the ugly example set by the SLPP in their presidential candidate’s own district, Chairman Maligi.
It could be recalled that incidences of political intimidations by the SLPP started months before official campaigns were declared by the ECSL.
Records have it that, PC Shebora Thelle, Yoni chiefdom, Koya in Port Loko district North-West, was allegedly beaten by SLPP thugs, unleashed terror on APC youth, members and supporters.
Regent Chief Attatie of Mile 91 and loyalists of Mohamed Orman Bangura, Minister of Youth Affairs were named responsible for the uncountable terror unleashing on innocent youths and supporters of the APC.
Allegations are that loyalists of the SLPP Youth Minister is responsible for the destruction of APC presidential candidate, Dr. Samura Wilson Kamara’s banners and images with much impunity in some parts of the North.
