In a remarkable display of her continued dedication to both her community and her party, Freetown Mayor, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, made a significant contribution to the All People’s Congress (APC) party on Monday, March 17, 2025.
The mayor donated 16 bags of rice to the Executive of the APC Western Region, under the leadership of Comrade Kasho Holland J. Cole, the Western Regional Chairman a gesture part of her ongoing efforts to support both the Muslim and Christian communities during the holy months of Ramadan and Lent.
Mayor Aki-Sawyerr, accompanied by a team of councilors and members of her political group, Team Yvonne, further expanded her charitable efforts by donating 80 bags of rice to the Western Rural District and Constituency Executives. The donation was made under the leadership of Comrade Honorable Abubakarr Fofana Esq.
The donations serve as a testament to the mayor’s deep commitment to social welfare, as well as her unwavering support for the APC leadership, with an emphasis on unity and collective strength within the party.
During both donation events, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr emphasized the importance of a unified and strong leadership for Sierra Leone’s future. Reflecting on the nation’s needs, she stressed that for the APC to remain at the forefront of political and developmental progress, it requires a leader who can unite the country, drive meaningful change, and present a strong, positive image on the global stage.
“Party unity is crucial for us to achieve the aspirations we have for Sierra Leone. We need a strong leader with a proven track record, someone who not only has the capacity to contribute to the country’s development but also possesses the global recognition to ensure we secure an outright victory in the upcoming election—without the need for a runoff,” Mayor Aki-Sawyerr said during her address.
Her remarks come shortly after she declared her candidacy for the flagbearer position in the 2026 APC convention. This move, seen as a strategic effort to bolster her influence within the party, also aligns with her vision of a united APC that works together towards securing a brighter future for the country.
In the course of the event, both Comrade Kasho Holland J. Cole and Comrade Honorable Abubakar Fofana Esq. expressed their sincere gratitude to Mayor Aki-Sawyerr for her generosity and dedication to the APC.
They highlighted her outstanding contributions as mayor, noting her relentless commitment to the welfare of her constituents and her resilience in the face of challenges.
“Mayor Aki-Sawyerr’s support has been unwavering,” said Comrade Holland J. Cole. “Her leadership qualities and genuine care for the people of Sierra Leone are evident in everything she does. We are grateful for her generosity, and we fully support her vision for a stronger, more unified APC.”
The donations, while simple in their material form, symbolize much more than just charity. They represent Mayor Aki-Sawyerr’s vision for a Sierra Leone that is not only unified but also led by a capable and trusted figure who can steer the nation toward greater prosperity. The mayor’s message resonates strongly within the APC, as members are reminded of the importance of solidarity and the strength that comes from collective effort.
As the APC looks toward the 2026 elections, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr’s actions and words are positioning her as a key player in shaping the future of the party and the nation. Her call for unity, coupled with her personal investment in the well-being of Sierra Leone’s citizens, demonstrates a leader who is prepared to guide the country into a new era of political and social cohesion.
