Hawawa’s appointment as the new CEO of ECOFEST is not a surprise to many because she has been in the entertainment industry for far too long. She is a former Miss University Sierra Leone among many beauty pageants she had won over the years. She took over her husband, Abubakarr Turay (Kabaka), just few days after the 2024 ECOFEST dates were revealed to the public.

In her social media post just after the news broke out, Mrs. Turay expressed her profound gratitude for the opportunity givens to her, noting that ECOFEST’s role is a platform for cultural exchange across Africa and a beacon of unity in showcasing Sierra Leone’s Art and Culture. She emphasized her commitment to building on the festival’s legacy by introducing innovative ideas to broaden its reach and impact. Her assurance is on delivering memorable experiences for fans while elevating Sierra Leonean musicians on a global stage.

“I am deeply honoured and incredibly humbled to step into the role of CEO for ECOFEST. This festival does not only serve as a focal point for cultural exchange across the African continent, but also a beacon of unity, showcasing the uniqueness and talent that makes our nation exceptional,” she stated

Adding that, together, they would continue to create unforgettable experiences for their audiences, elevate our artists, and as always, put Sierra Leone’s music scene and art on the global map.

She said she is looking forward to working with all to achieve those goals and welcome everything and support collaboration.

She said the future possibilities are endless, and she is ready to get to work.
