One of the popular main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party aspirants for the National Secretary General in the approaching delegates’ conference, lawyer Lansana Dumbuya Esq has described himself as an APC loyalist.
“I am more loyal to the APC party than any other candidate vying for the National Secretary General position”, said Lawyer Dumbuya Esq, and counted his immense contributions to the progress and development of the party in his thirty-five years.
Lawyer Dumbuya Esq Monday 16th 2023 made the remarks in an interview with the Africa Young Voices Television breakfast show-Wake Up Salone.
Speaking during the discussion Lawyer Dumbuya outlined series of works he has over the years done for the APC party, since his youthful days, adding: “Looking at my track of records you will see what I have done for the APC party. I have done everything in my life for the party at the detriment of my family, and myself. I have lived all my life for the APC party. So it is very difficult to have someone like me”.
He said informed that there are lots of things that are indicative of his loyalty to the party which is why he is running for the APC party’s National Secretary General office in the approaching National Delegates’ Conference. Lawyer Dumbuya Esq said the National Secretary General is not a position anybody can just come and say I want to be the Secretary General of the party. You must know the history, culture, internal dynamics and how the APC party functions.
Lawyer Dumbuya Esq continued that he has been with the APC party for the past thirty-five (35) years, adding that running for the party’s National Secretary General is actually not a child’s play.
He encouraged candidates vying for the position capacitate themselves well with the requisite qualifications which he already has that is why he is running for the position.
“I have something special to offer for the APC party if I emerge as the next APC National Secretary General,’’ he vowed, recalling that during his thirty-five with the APC party he has done a lot.
Lawyer Dumbuya Esq vividly reflected on youthful days in APC party in the 80s, during which he didn’t do much. He added that in early 1996 he was one of the party’s student activists at the Fourah Bay College who made sure that the APC party had its presence at the University of Sierra Leone.
He further reflected on his roles in the party from 1999-2000 onto 2004 when he became very much active in representing the APC party in all legal matters in court, helping people and the party. He said that he has always been very pivotal in West II constituency where President Dr Siaka Stevens of blessed memory started his political journey. Lawyer Dumbya Esq said: “I am one of the key stakeholders in West II who nominated the parliamentary candidate who won, and the local council candidate in which the APC party won all seats. I was one of the lawyers who represented the former Leader and Chairman of the APC in a matter he was arrested and detained at the Pademba Road Prison. And at some point in time I was called the APC lawyer”.
Asked what he has to offer the party, Lawyer Bumbuya Esq replied: “I have the experience and expertise. I have worked at the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal in Arusha Rwanda, where the ninety to one hundred days genocide claimed thousands of lives in a tribal war between Hutus and Tutsis in 1994. And I believe have a lot to bring to the APC party national secretariat”. He disclosed plans to bring APC party’s grassroots to the national secretariat as he puts it: “I have already started working on diverse forms of identification cards”.
Lawyer Dumbuya Esq said that he has been running for the APC National Secretary General position eleven years and encouraged his comrade and co-contestant, Ady Macaulay whom he described as a fine gentleman to run for the position some other time; “But as for now I can contribute more than him, adding that the going for the above mentioned position one needs to have a strong political base and I have it. And I can comfortably contest in constituencies in the West. He said that a National Secretary General of the APC party should be somebody who is well known by the party and the grassroots. Lawyer Bumbuya Esq who hails from a very humble background around the Creole Warf at Pyke Street New England Ville, knows very well how to relate with the grassroots of the APC party. He warmly commended the care taker team for the handlings of the lower level elections. Lawyer Dumbuya Esq thus entreated delegates to vote him for the National Secretary General of the APC party.
