Research Program Officer for BudgIT Sierra Leone, Daniel Conteh says that maternal and infant mortality lack health-care facilities.
Conteh made this statement on Wednesday 8th February 2023, during a power-point presentation to Civil Society Organizations on Transparency and Accountability in the country’s health sector.
According to Conteh most government hospital in most affected are marginalized and some lack health care workers to give treatment to the sick, adding that seeing public sector accountability suitable people should take responsibility for working towards appropriate results.
“Our objective is to engage collective players including CSOs on approaches in public engagements on health sector and accountability”, he said, disclosing plans to build an advocacy plans with the Open Government Partnership in mainstreaming issues of health in their National Action Plan.
He said accountability requires a process of continuous communications with partners, stakeholders and the public.
Coordinator of Open Government Partnership (OGP), Hannah Hamida Jimmy outlined their mandate saying that her institution looks at improving delivery, creating safer community effective management of public resources.
She said her presence is because of OGP partnership with BudgIT, which looked at the health sector, adding that they do not need to leave everything to the authorities especially when it come to polices.
“We need CSOs, media and community stakeholders onboard in making analysis so that those loopholes can be minimized”, she said.
Justice Sector Commissions Programme Manager, Luseni Fofana said accountability and transparency have been issues in the country especially in health.
