The Finance Department of Orange mobile network on Wednesday 8th February 2023, partnered with BnB Cash App in launching “Oversea Money” transfer, at a ceremony held at the BnB headquarters, Murray Town in Freetown.

Speaking at the launching the Country Head of BnB CashApp Mamadou Billy Kolode disclosed that Orange Money and BnB unveiled something through the supervision of the Bank of Sierra Leone. He said that such joint venture has never happen in the country.

Billy Kolode said BnB is a remittance company that aims at bringing remittances to the doorsteps of customers in the urban and rural communities.

He added that few years back, sending and receiving cash was a challenge for people in the country, but BnB was the first payment company to deploy technology that will empower customers to send and receive money directly.

Kolode said the launch will help in empowering more Orange Money customers. He noted that the launch was just the beginning of their collective journey.

“Oversee money transaction is currently available for countries within Africa and has not yet reached United States and Europe”, he explained.

Representative Orange Money CEO, Madam Abibatu Baxter informed that Orange Money has done it, bits in terms of financial inclusion.

Baxter said the launch of the oversea money transfer platform will allow people to send money with ease and convenient. “Our main aim is to see that Sierra Leone go cashless”. she noted.

She said the launch of the overseas money transfer platform will allow people in hard-to-reach communities to receive and send money easily saying; “You can sit at home conveniently with your phone and send money overseas.”

Representative from Bank of Sierra Leone (BSL) Ibrahim Conteh expressed sincere gratitude to Orange Money and BnB.

He said the launch of the oversea transfer has made transaction seamless because people can now sit at the comfort of their homes and offices and send and receive money everywhere excluding USA and Europe.

Conteh assured the public that Orange Money and BnB are in full compliance with strict supervision from the Central Bank, adding that the launch is in line with the vision of the Central Bank of Sierra Leone.

He reiterated that the new product launched by Orange Money and BnB is safe for customers to use, and it is under the guidance of the regulators.
