As the Leone Rock-sponsored Sierra Leone Premier League comes to an end, Kahunla Rangers and Kholifa Stars, two of the promoted teams last year, have faced relegation from the top tier of Sierra Leone football.
Kahunla Rangers, after a challenging season, secured only 23 points from 33 matches, with 6 wins, 5 draws, and 22 losses, placing them at the bottom of the Premier League table. Their recent defeat on June 23rd, where they lost 2-0 to Wilberforce Strikers, sealed their fate.
Similarly, Kholifa Stars, finishing second to last with 24 points from 32 matches, recorded 6 wins, 6 draws, and 20 losses. Despite boycotting their weekend fixture against FC Kallon, their relegation from the league marks a disappointing end to their brief stint in the top flight.
The fate of the third team to be relegated hangs in the balance between Real Republicans and Freetown City FC. Real Republicans currently sit in 16th position with 29 points from 32 matches, while Freetown City FC, with 31 points, also from 32 matches, and have a slight edge to retain their Premier League status if they win both of their remaining matches over the weekend.
As the season concludes, football enthusiasts across Sierra Leone await the final outcomes that will determine the league standings and the teams’ fate in the upcoming season of the Leone Rock Premier League.
