The referral hospital in Kambia district is in need of logistical and material to carry out its mandate. The situation was recently uncovered during a spot check visit at the facility by the Minister of State North-West, Madam Hon. Haja Isata Abdulai-Kamara, who later realized that there is nothing to write home about health care delivery service at the Kambia Government Hospital.
Since the inception of the Bio led SLPP Government, there has been no financial allocation for the Kambia medical referral centre as well as other districts considering the rooftop shouting of revenue professed to have been raised by Government in the discharge of governance within the first one hundred days. But why no allocation at this material time remains the big question that begs for an answer from the Bio led Government.
The Resident Minister, North-West in her visit to the hospital noticed only one solar power source that provides electricity to the blood bank. It is established that solar installation that was done by the COPI solar engineers is partly looted and destroyed by unknown persons.
Hospital staff complained that the contracted engineers succeeded in installing substandard batteries as a power source to supply the entire Kambia hospital.
It was also discovered during the Minister’s inspection tour of the health facility that, there were staff with PIN Codes and NASSIT numbers, who have served the hospital for years without salaries.
An affected worker, Tiangay who has served for ten years said the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Mr. Tucker, always ask them for Le 100,000 token whenever they attempt to confirm anything relating to their salaries not to talk of leave allowances.
Another issue that was also brought to the attention of Government through the State Minister was the hospital management’s failure to provide food supply to patients, owing to the fact that the Kambia Hospital Management owes suppliers outstanding bills.
