The Executive Director of Campaign for Human Rights and Development International Abdul M. Fatoma on Tuesday 5th March 2024, at CHRDI Head Office in Freetown told journalists that about Nine Thousand, Seven Hundred and Fifty (9,700,50) University Students are currently in Darkness to education over the ongoing leadership crisis at University of Sierra Leone.

According to Fatoma, the country is in a shocking state of affairs on the manner in which the government of Sierra Leone handle the issue at the University of Sierra Leone.

He in the issue picture clearly shows that government is vandalizing the laws of this country and jeopardizing the future of the students who are just enter to enrol in there different courses in university.He noted that the carless action made by the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education have directly affected Nine thousand Seven hundred and Fifty student’s.

He furthered that these issues CHRDI is not seeing any genuine sincere commitment from government’s relief to address these challenging issues.

Fatoma further that CHRDI is communicate directly to the people of the country and the government if they are serious and committed about education and the right to education and respect the rule of law.

‘’We are urging the government to immediately resolve the current crisis within the university and the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education’’.

He said that constitution of Sierra Leone is the highest law of the land and parliament cannot pass law which goes against the constitution and government needs to show that in the action are respected the laws of the country and sharing that the university of Sierra Leone court is restated between the laws of the country, adding that CHRDI aware of the meeting going on between the ministry and also the university administration.

He went on to say that if the court betrayed the laws of this country CHRDI will also channel towards them, all we want in their dislodge is to cooperate with government, and government should also respect the laws of the country and negotiate every possible thing to restore the court within the confine of the laws.

He informed the gathering that government cannot disrespect its own laws it’s a crisis, government should always guarantee citizen of their security and safety and now the education of these children is under serious threat, adding that they are looking forward to government  to respect the people if the country.

He told the press that with that CHRDI is decided there action point as an organization to issues out 14 days working notice to the government and if they fail to act within the 14 days they will left with no option but to stage a public demonstration in front of the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education.
