A 15 Year old boy tragically lost his life on Sunday, March 3rd, 2024, due to an alleged Kush overdose at Simpson Street in Pujehun Town. The incident has rattled the community, shedding light on the concerning rise in Kush consumption despite efforts from security personnel and community leaders to combat it.

Kush intake has been escalating in the district, posing a significant concern for authorities and residents alike. Despite ongoing efforts to curb its use, Kush remains easily accessible and prevalent, presenting a persistent challenge.

The victim, identified as Dauda Konneh, reportedly consumed a lethal dose of Kush after donating blood at the Pujehun Government Hospital Blood Bank, leading to his untimely demise. Reports suggest that instead of replenishing his blood supply as advised, he opted to purchase a large quantity of Kush.

Dauda, a pupil of Saint Paul’s Secondary School in Pujehun, had dropped out of school during his fourth year (SS1) and indulged excessively in Kush smoking. His classmates remember him fondly, describing him as a bright and promising student who had the potential to become a Senior Prefect if he had continued his education.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation by authorities. Residents of Pujehun Town have expressed sorrow and concern over the tragic loss of the young boy’s life. Many are urging for intensified efforts to address the root causes of Kush usage and to provide support for those grappling with addiction.

In response to this heart-wrenching event, community leaders and law enforcement agencies have pledged to intensify their efforts to combat the spread of Kush in the district. Strategies such as heightened awareness campaigns, stricter enforcement measures, and enhanced support services for addiction treatment are being considered to tackle this pressing issue.

As investigations into the circumstances of the young boy’s death continue, the community stands united in mourning and in their resolve to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
