Hon. Justice Adrian Fisher of the High Court of Sierra Leone has Thursday 7 September 2023 released Alimany Kargbo having spent eight years at the Male Correctional Centre, Pademba Road Freetown.
Alimany Kargbo walked free in court from a count charge of manslaughter as pleaded guilty as charged.
According to the offence, Alimany Kargbo on 10 December 2016, Freetown, Western Area of the Republic of Sierra Leone mistakenly killed one Mohamed Sheku.
In his confession statement, Alimany Kargbo told the court that he involved in a fight with the deceased and was trying to protect himself because the deceased was holding a knife.
He said in the fight he mistakenly stab Mohamed Sheku on his neck, adding that on that point he ran to the police station and made a confession statement that he has stab the deceased.
He told the court that he later went home and both the him and the deceased were asked to take medical treatment because both of them sustain injury, later on, I had that my friend, Mohamed Sheku could not make it up and i was arrested.
In tears, he said he had suffered in prison for eight years stating that he has learnt his lesson and promised the court not to ever fight again.
“I didn’t stab the deceased intentionally, he was my dear friend”, he said.
In his mitigation pile, defence counsel, I. Bangura told the court the accused did not wasted the precious time of the court but pleaded guilty.
He said the accused have been remanded for eight years and has comported himself, adding that his client is a professional welder and if tender mercy will go back into his professional field.
After listing to the plied mitigation by council for the accused, Hon. Justice A. Fisher released the accused Alimany Kargbo as freeman.
