One of the leading Presidential (flag bearer) aspirant of the current main opposition All People’s Congress (APC), lawyer Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara, has said in Freetown that he wants to aspire for the highest seat in the country.
Lawyer Kamara made the disclosure whilst addressing a pre-Ifta meeting on Monday 17 March 2025 at his residence in the Lumley neighbourhood- West of Freetown.
JFK described the meeting as significant, noting that charity begins at home, the reason for engaging his neighbours, no matter how far they were from.
He informed that a neighbour is someone who is affected by whatever another neighbour is doing, irrespective of their geographical locations.
“I am an ordinary man,” he said, and warmly, acknowledging the roles and efforts of the APC National Executive in sustaining the party’s momentum amid challenging political atmosphere created by the failed incumbent Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).
Kamara said people know very well that JFK has what it takes to rise and stand for the people as well as deliver this nation from its current imposed economic setbacks.
He described the Julius Maada Bio-led SLPP government as one full of lies, deceits and cons, saying, “We have been subjected to lies by these people; and if we continue to go so low it will reach a time when we won’t be able to rise again.”
He added that the people of Sierra Leone were promised rice but are now given gari, and explained that his mum was a teacher; so he knows what hunger is. “I have seen pain,’’ he recalled.
JFK called all to join him pray for God’s guidance and direction to grant him wisdom, energy and courage to rescue and deliver Sierra Leone from the current suffering.
Speaking on the role of the media in projecting the good image of JFK to the fullest attraction of the APC party, and the nation as a whole, former Deputy Minister of Information and Communications, Theo Nicol encouraged all to first and foremost identify JFK as a brand and market his candidature, both in the party and the country at large.
Mr. Nicol explained that JFK is not a new in the body-politic of Sierra Leone, and that he is much easier to market than one could imagine.
He entreated all to join in selling the positive aspects of JFK to the APC party and to Sierra Leone and beyond.
He said that the personality and reputation of JFK is already clean and appealing, which is what the public is looking for exactly.
He vividly recalled that JFK started his law practice way back in 1991, and that JFK id highly educated with a decent reputation; and he has worked for the Special Court for Sierra Leone as a Prosecutor, served diligently as Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission, as well as in couple of other responsible and positions of trust at home and beyond.
He however implored journalists promoting JFK’s candidacy for the Presidency of Sierra Leone to focus on the positives by way of projecting the good aspects of his background.
He observed that JFK’s professional, social and political ties cut across; and that JFK is the only firebrand opposition politician that challenges SLPP government on issues.
The ex-minister also urged all to ignore negative controversies and focus on the positives, with the truth being to promote the Presidential candidacy of a man best suited to take the highest seat in Sierra Leone.
