Sierra Leone’s Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, has been conferred with the Honorary Doctor of Science degree, DSc, by Njala University at a ceremony that took place on September 15, 2023 in Bo.
The Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) degree is awarded to individuals who have made ground-breaking and significant contributions to their field, humanity and society.
“On this special day, Njala University under the powers conferred to it by Article 45,Section 5(b) of the Universities Act 2021 and with the consent of the University Administration, has determined that Alhaji Kanja Ibrahim Sesay be awarded the Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) of this University. It is a great honour to our University and to current and future graduands that our awardee has accepted,” the University Public Orator remarked in his Citation, while describing the awardee as a true son of Bo and one with passion for humanity and development.
He described Alhaji Kanja Sesay as a complete accomplished citizen and one who has rendered distinguished services in the advancement of humanity, adding that Mr. Sesay was eminently worthy of receiving the honorary degree.
In his remarks, Alhaji Kanja Sesay thanked the University for conferring on him the prestigious award, adding that the award would give him additional motivation to serve humanity and society.
“I accept this prestigious and rare honour with both pride and profound humility. The honour is a public recognition of my humble efforts in promoting the vision, mission, and the strategic goals of the University,” he noted.
He thanked President Julius Maada Bio for giving him the platform to serve the country as Minister of Energy. Mr Sesay also extended his gratitude to his wife, family and friends for the support he continues to enjoy from them and for helping him gain such a stellar recognition.
