Freetown, 14th August 2024 (SLENA) – The Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Rev. Dr. Titus Williams, has urged staff at the Ministry to fully engage in the three-day capacity building training program. He stressed its significance not only in enhancing their understanding of key regional protocols, public service administration, and civil service operations, but also in their personal growth and development, demonstrating the Ministry’s commitment to their individual progress.
Addressing participants at the Ministry’s Conference Hall, Rev. Dr. Williams highlighted the training as an essential component of President Bio’s “Big Five Game Changers” initiative, which aims to strengthen civil servants’ knowledge and skills. “Capacity building is crucial for improving public service administration and personal development. It equips staff with the necessary tools to perform their duties more effectively, ultimately contributing to the nation’s progress,” he remarked.
The training program, which focuses on understanding ECOWAS protocols and policies, regional integration, ECOWAS interventions in Sierra Leone, the civil service code, and the structure and operations of MoPED, is designed to enhance the competencies of the Ministry’s staff. This will not only broaden their knowledge but also provide them with practical skills, such as basic writing skills, a critical aspect of their roles in the civil service. These skills will make them more effective in their jobs, instilling a sense of confidence and competence.
Mr. Usman Conteh, the Deputy Secretary of Planning and Economic Development, who served as Chairman of the training, emphasized that capacity building is foundational to understanding public administrative protocols. “This training is the architect and bedrock of effective public service. It is essential that we continue to invest in our staff to ensure they are well-equipped to meet the demands of their roles,” he stated.
The Development Secretary of MoPED also expressed his appreciation for the training, noting its relevance for MoPED staff and all public servants. He emphasized the importance of such initiatives in fostering a more efficient and effective civil service.
Participants in the training program welcomed the opportunity, acknowledging it as a valuable step toward improving their professional ethics and performance in their respective roles. They expressed their commitment to fully engaging in and completing the training, recognizing its potential to significantly enhance their capabilities.
