In a bid to complement the effort of the President Free Quality education, on Saturday 30th July 2022, Youth Talent Charity Agency Sierra Leone has conducted Inter Junction Community Spelling Bee first round competition that took place at Youth Training Centre Portee Old Road Wellington in Freetown.
This year’s competition there were eleven participants from different section were selected for the competition, but only seven participants took part in the competition. The spellers were Joseph A. Kamara representing Congo Water Wellington, Mohamed Sorie Kamara representing John Lane among others.
“He said encouraged participants to treat the competition with all seriousness as the competition will serve as a boost to their academic work, while pointing out the significance of the competition for the growth of education in the inert-community.” The founder of Ibrahim Prosper Bangura confirmed. He further stated that the agency has been working to revive the spelling culture within schools and communities.
The judges of the competition were selected in gender base as two female and three male. The first round of the competition, four participants were chosen and each one of them was supposed to spell five words and each word carried to marks. The first round of the competition was amazing all of the participants performed very well. But it was rather unfortunate that during the second round of the competition, based on the judgement done by the aforesaid judges four contestants Isatu Kargbo, Mohamed S. Kamara and two other were dropped or eliminated from the competition due to their poor performance in the second rounds.
For both rounds of the competition four contestants Joseph Kamara of Congo Water came first position with 20 scored points, the second runner up Memunatu with 18 scored points, Yusuf Bangura with 16 scored points, and the fourth positions Osman Kamara with 15 points respectively. The competition was concluded by issuing certificates to prominent stakeholders who immensely contributed to the success of the competition and also with a donation from the founder Ibrahim Prosper Bangura.
In a telephone conversation “She said poverty could be reduce in our society through education and that their union was very much committed to support the young generation in the educational aspect.” Hawanatu Koroma the Chief Executive Secretary lamented.
A spelling bee is a competition in which contestant are asked to spell a broad selection of words, usually with a varying degree of difficulty. A spelling bee competition is a great way to generate interest in spelling and to motivate students.
