One of Sierra Leone’s leading financial service companies and provider of facets of financial products and services powered by a purpose-built technological framework that supports the service delivery process to customers, Sky Bank (SL.) Limited has opened its Waterloo branch to meet the demand of customers.

Sky Bank operates through Retail Banking, Commercial Banking, and Treasury, Corporate, and Investment Banking segments.

The colourful event, which took place past Friday 10th January, 2025, was witnessed by community stakeholders, banks officials and heads of the rural District Council, among others.

Sky Bank (SL) Limited, which was incorporated in Sierra Leone 10th August 2007 as a Private Limited Liability Company, is a subsidiary of Sifax Group- Nigeria Limited. Following the Banking Act 2000, it was licensed by the Bank of Sierra Leone (BSL) on 19th August 2009 to carry on banking business in Sierra Leone.

Sifax Group- Nigeria Limited is a large group that is into various sectors in investment such as Maritime, Aviation, oil & gas, Haulage & logistics, financial services (Banks), and hospitality in West Africa and Central Africa. With headquarters in Nigeria, the bank maintains subsidiaries in Sierra Leone, the Gambia, and the Republic of Guinea.

Sky Bank (SL.) Ltd. Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer, Fasasi Charles Adeniye, in his remarks, expressed thanks and appreciation to the people of Waterloo for allowing them to operate in their community.

He noted that they have made significant progress in the banking sector in the country, disclosing that they have established five branches in the country, placing them in the tenth position among the thirteen banks in Sierra Leone. “The reason for establishing Sky Bank in Waterloo is to make banking services accessible to every individual in the Waterloo community’’ he said.

He continued that their goal is to improve business and empower people. “This is a demonstration of trust and confidence our clients have placed in us, noting that it is the reflection of strong partnerships we have built over the years,” he mentioned.

He pointed out that the achievement is as a result of dedication, hard work and vision of their exceptional team because they are always focused on personalised service.

He assured the public that they would maintain high standards of customer care in all their branches in the country.

He promised to work with authorities and the community people in promoting financial inclusion in the Waterloo community.

He noted that they would support businesses to grow and provide critical financial services in the community.

Sky Bank Board Chairman, Hon. Brimah Conteh, mentioned that in less than five years, Sky Bank has established seven branches in the country, noting that such is a testament of hard work and dedication to their clients.

He disclosed that the bank is transforming the banking sector, and urged the community people to bank with Sky Bank, noting that they have different financial services with good interest.

He assured the public that Sky Bank would provide quality financial services to the people of Waterloo.

The Director of Banking Supervision of the Bank of Sierra Leone, Mr. Bah, said that Sky Bank is one of the few banks in the country that have maintained a steady growth in the area of assets and profit.  “As a supervising body, we always urge banks to take banking services closer to the public,” he said.

He noted they are happy that Sky Bank opened a branch in Waterloo; and he promised to collaborate with Sky Bank to promote financial inclusion in the country.

He said that the BSL does not only regulate and supervise banks but also collaborate with banks and government to support the private sector and the wider economy as a whole.

He disclosed that financial inclusion has gone beyond holding physical branches but to make banking more digital to include making payment through mobile phones to make payment for goods and services.

He said that they have developed the national switch which allows people to use card and access money from any bank in the country.

He expressed thanks and appreciation to Sky Bank for making financial services accessible in Waterloo community.

Chief Alimamy Bethembeng II of Waterloo expressed appreciation to Sky Bank for establishing a branch in his community.

He assured Sky Bank that members of his community would bank with them and ensure that the bank continues to grow.

He called on members of the public to bank with Sky Bank.

The Western Area Rural District Council (WARDC) Chairman Kasho Holland Cole did the official opening of Sky Bank- Waterloo branch.

Whilst addressing audience, the WARD-C chairman expressed delight and gratitude to Sky Bank for opening a branch in that part of the country.

He pointed out that the Bank made no mistake as his council is fast becoming a business centre.

He assured them of security and a peaceful business environment they can thrive on.
