The Vice Chancellor and Principal of the Milton Margai Technical University (MMTU), Professor Philip John Kanu on Tuesday 10th December 2024 expressed profound happiness for the appointment of Dr. Dennis Sandy as Minister of Works and Technical Maintenance having served the MMTU with sincere commitment and dedication, that he is proud of him and that his position is still vacant and difficult to fill.
He made the statement at the presentation of two awards to Dr. Dennis Sandy by the MMTU at the Ministry’s Conference Room, New England Ville in Freetown.
According to Professor Philip John Kanu, Dr. Dennis Sandy is an academician per excellence having published several books and articles, that he appreciates the work he did for the MMTU, that his journey serves as a testament of his hard work and commitment to duty and wished him all the best in his new appointment.
He further disclosed that the Sierra Leone Roads Authority, under the Works Ministry, has promised to fix the roads leading to the three campuses of the MMTU and that for the Congo Cross campus, this is the first time it would have a tarmac road in its over 50 years history, that the MMTU was the first institution to conduct a survey of its lands with a drone recalling that Dr. Sandy succored him during difficult times when he was accused of tribalism and subjected to cyberbullying.
Responding, Dr. Dennis Sandy articulated that life is a service of events, appealed to all to be focused and determined to succeed and break walls and commended Professor Kanu for his academic prowess noting that he was not expecting the awards and that he would never forget his humble beginnings.
According to Dr. Sandy, the greatest joy of a lecturer is when his students excel in various disciplines as well as create impact in their lives which he attributed to human capital development, hoped that the MMTU would get a replacement for him, commended all for remembering him and urged all to be disciplined, respectful and God-fearing adding that he would always think of MMTU that is in his heart and now part of him.
He also recalled that he helped the institution reclaim its land while serving as Minister of Lands and urged the university administration to call on him anytime they need help.
The President of the MMTU Academic Staff Association, Mr. Ishmael Kebbay also presented a letter of appreciation to Dr. Sandy.
Highlight of the auspicious ceremony was presentation of gifts to Dr. Dennis Sandy by the Dean of the Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Studies, MMTU, Aminata Bangura and Mr. Ishmael Kebbay for continuing to make the MMTU proud.
The Permanent Secretary, Madam Judith Jones, rendered the vote of thanks.
