By Henry KargboThe Waterloo Police Division has informed this medium that the King’s Courtyard, Waterloo Magistrate Court has forty-six (46) protesters on remand at the Banga Farm Correctional Centre, Waterloo in the Western Rural District.
The accused on Monday, 11th September, 2023 protest on the current condition of hardship in the country.
Police say the 46 suspected protesters, including seven females and thirty-nine males, made their first appearance in court on Wednesday, 13th September 2023, at the King’s Courtyard Magistrate Court in Waterloo.
Police also indicated that the 46 accused are charged with various counts ranging from riotous conduct, disorderly behaviour and throwing missiles to public insults and provocation, which led to the 1965 Public Order Act offenses for which they were charged to court.
Police reports also stated that the accused were found with quantities of rock, old vehicle tyres, and placards with provocative words, some of which were tendered in exhibits.
Police say all 46 accused persons will make their second appearance in court on Monday, 18th September, 2023.
