Majority and Leader of Government Business in Sierra Leone’s Parliament, Honourable Mathew Sahr Nyuma, has been appointed as a Member of the Bureau representing the African region. Honourable Nyuma’s appointment occurred during the Constitutive and 1st Session of the OACPS-EU Regional Parliamentary Assembly in Luanda, Angola on Saturday, 17th February 2024.
The Chief Whip, Hon. Dickson Rogers, Deputy Opposition Leader 2, Hon Aaron Aruna Koroma, and other Members of Parliament are part of the delegation that represented Sierra Leone. The event program envisages the creation of three new regional parliamentary assemblies, namely those of Africa-European Union, Caribbean-European Union Union and Pacific-European Union. The OACPS-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly is co-chaired, on the European side, by Carlos Zorrinho, a Portuguese MEP, and, on the OACPS side, by Anita Rita Sithole, a Mozambican deputy.
The OACPS brings together around 1.5 billion people from three continents and 79 countries, 48 from Sub-Saharan Africa, 16 from the Caribbean and 15 from the Pacific, which makes the organization a significant force comprised of 79 Member States from Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific, the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) strives to achieve the sustainable development of its Members and their progressive integration.
