The International Monetary Fund ( IMF ) delivered Sierra Leone a very worrisome verdict last week. Our foreign reserves are almost depleted. They have fallen to less than one month of imports. What this means is that Sierra Leone is officially broke and only his ego and shameless pride are stopping President Maada Bio from declaring a serious austerity.
Maada Bio actually once encouraged his SLPP supporters in Bio ( In Mende ) to scratch the inside of their noses good, because good things are coming to the country .
But the only good things we see in Sierra Leone under Bio are hardship, penury, suffering, high cost of living , tribalism, chop -I- chop , a President not sitting at home but traveling all over the world and bringing back nothing, extrajudicial killings, selling of our national interests to the highest bidders, ostentation, wilful self – enrichment and chaos soon. The very People of Bo and Kenema —the SLPP strongholds— are complaining more bitterly now than opposition Northwesterners. Bio is now looked at in Mendeline as a bandit because of his failed leadership and governance.
Wow. When will things ever change for the better in our country ?
By the way, people are talking about the opposition APC’s infighting? The SLPP’s own has not really started yet. With supporters in SLPP forums now slugging it out openly with profanities, including “Mammy cuss”, Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh and First Lady Fatima Bio will burn Sierra Leone down to ashes. You wait and see . Poor Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh is just being “used ” and misused as Vice – President now.
Our country is so pitiful . While the people will soon buy one bag of rice at Le. 2 million , all our politicians are doing is lining their pockets and fighting one another for the spoils. Nobody is thinking about developing the country.
Bio, the President, is busy with excessive photo-ops at the UN and begging money in America . Our President has turned into a beggar and a vagrant. He does not sleep in his house anymore. All he is engaged in now is traveling all over the globe to beg for pittance from other countries and international organizations. And as for the money, you do not see anything being done with it for the betterment of the country.
When President Bio receives the loans and aid he goes a- begging and a- borrowing, he and his SLPP acolytes squander it and shove diamonds in the mouth of talkertive U.S. Ambassador Bryan Hunt to keep him quiet. The once boisterous Ambassador, once being accused of interfering in our national affairs by the government traveled to America with Bio to help him lobby the U.S Congress for approval of the withheld Millennium Challenge Corporation ( MCC ) Compact $ 500 million grant and to give legitimacy to Bio who is holding an illegal mandate after stealing the Presidential elections last year. But even the promised IMF U.S. $ 200 million extended credit facility and the MCC Compact money will not benefit the people of Sierra Leone, once President Bio is the one ruling the nation.
A Country with diamonds, gold, bauxite, iron ore, coltan, rutile etc . which make her one of the richest in Africa has concretized its beggar.nation status under President Bio and his rapacious supporters who are now busy celebrating the loans that keep multiplying.
Sierra Leone is U.S $5 billion in foreign debt now; Sierra Leone has come to the point where it now has only 1 month money for imports.
Bio seems to be now busy promoting the principle of “I chop , you chop, palaver finish. ” We sorry nar we country.
Meanwhile, the opposition is also busy with infighting. Everybody wants to be flagbearer in 2028.
Bio has castrated the media, the civil society, army, police, lawyers, Book People, the religious council etc. He has stuffed their mouths with money and there is no serious opposition to his misrule and Mismanagement of the country’s natural and human resources.
