In a landmark gesture aimed at promoting education and community development, Leone Rock Metal Group has awarded scholarships to 210 students from the three chiefdoms where it operates Simiria, Dansogoia, and Sambaia. Each chiefdom will see 70 of its students benefit from the initiative, which has been widely applauded by local leaders and residents.

The scholarship program is part of the company’s broader commitment to sustainable development and social responsibility in its mining areas. Speaking during the presentation ceremony, company representative Mr. Ibrahim Sesay reaffirmed Leone Rock Metal Group’s long-term dedication to supporting local communities. “This is just the beginning,” he said, promising more development initiatives in the near future.

The initiative was warmly received by traditional authorities, who expressed appreciation for the company’s approach. Paramount Chief Musa B.F. Jalloh of Sambaia Chiefdom described the scholarships as a much-needed investment in the youth and called on recipients to give back to their communities after completing their studies.

Similarly, Paramount Chief Alimamy Bangura III of Simiria Chiefdom praised the company for what he called a historic act. “Ever since mining started in our area, there has never been a time that a company has brought such benefits to this community. All they do is to come and take and then go without giving back to the people,” he said. Chief Bangura assured Leone Rock Metal Group of his community’s continued cooperation.

Student representative Issa Jalloh thanked the company, local chiefs, and community members on behalf of the scholarship recipients. He pledged that the students would work hard to justify the trust placed in them.

This initiative sets a new standard for corporate social responsibility in Sierra Leone’s mining sector and highlights the potential for meaningful partnerships between industry and local communities.
