On this International Workers’ Day, I extend my deepest appreciation to the hardworking men and women of Sierra Leone whose resilience and dedication continue to sustain our nation. From our farms and mines to our classrooms, markets, and offices, the Sierra Leonean worker remains the true engine of national growth and stability.
Yet, we must confront a difficult reality: far too many of our citizens labour under conditions that do not reflect their worth. Low wages, limited protections, unemployment among our youth, and the daily struggle to meet basic needs are challenges we can no longer ignore. A nation cannot prosper when its workforce is undervalued.
As we look to the future, I am committed to advancing a new and inclusive vision – one that prioritises decent work, fair pay, skills development, and stronger protections for all workers. This means investing in education and innovation, empowering labour institutions, and building an economy that places people at its centre.
My aspiration is clear: a Sierra Leone where hard work is met with dignity, opportunity is accessible to all, and every citizen can thrive through honest effort. On this day, I stand in solidarity with every worker across the country and reaffirm my commitment to championing your rights and aspirations.
Together, let us unite in purpose to build a stronger, fairer, and more prosperous Sierra Leone.
Happy International Workers’ Day.
