Governance specialist and politician Dr. Ibrahim Bangura has called on Members of Parliament to ensure that the ongoing debate on the Constitution of Sierra Leone (Amendment) Bill, 2025 is guided by the best interest of the people of Sierra Leone.

Speaking from the Well of Parliament during deliberations on the proposed constitutional amendments, Dr. Bangura expressed hope that the leadership of both sides of the House would reach a decision that benefits the nation.

“We hope that the two parties will come to a decision that will serve in the best interest of the people of Sierra Leone,” Dr. Bangura said.

His remarks came as lawmakers continued discussions on the Bill, which seeks to amend provisions of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone and introduce reforms aimed at strengthening governance and national development.

The constitutional amendment debate has attracted significant attention, with Members of Parliament from both sides of the aisle contributing to discussions on various proposed changes.

Dr. Bangura’s statement adds to growing calls for consensus-building and a national approach as Parliament considers reforms that could have long-term implications for Sierra Leone’s democratic institutions.

The House is expected to continue deliberations on the Bill as lawmakers work towards determining the next stage of the legislative process.
