With 28 days to go, Sierra Leone will once again host the greatest and biggest festival the West Africa sub-region has ever seen. The ECOFEST SIERRA LEONE 2021 REJUVENATION EDITION will be held at the National Stadium on 26th and 27th November 2021. It is coming at a time when everyone is considered to have been starved of concerts and Entertainment activities in Sierra Leone as the country recovers from lockdowns, curfews, and other COVID-19 restrictions. The previous edition in 2019 was dubbed The Evolution. The National Stadium saw a crowd of over 70,000 people. Artistes performed back to back and it had a total of 40 acts that performed all night. The festival which started around 8 PM, ended by 6:30 AM the following morning. It was a one-day event and there were thousands more that couldn’t make it into the stadium because they waited till the day of the show to last get tickets only to realize we were sold out. The plan this year is to sell our tickets online and with mobile money. That way, people will get their tickets early and get to the stadium on time.
In the next couple of days, ticket sales will start using AFRIMONEY. The event organizers have agreed to give a 5% discount on all tickets that will be bought within 14 days of the presale. “Anyone who buys with AFRIMONEY will receive a code that will later be used to pick up physical tickets for the show from all AFRIMONEY agents and SKYE Bank branches,” an Organizer remarked and added that there will be no sale of tickets at the stadium gates and that only those with tickets will be allowed to join the queues.
The goal of the ECOFEST is to create a unified African entertainment platform, where no nation will feel their acts need to be on the level of top continental superstars before they have the privilege to share the same stage. All they have to do is prove well in their countries and that is good enough to represent their nations. By this, an artiste from Liberia or Sierra Leone will perform on the same stage as Diamond Platnumz, Davido, Patoranking, Kuami Eugene, Stonebwoy, Awilo, etc…
“We realized that Sierra Leone and countries like Liberia, The Gambia, Guinea, Togo, and several others suffer the same predicament in the entertainment. They are considered “underdogs” because they have no known global superstars,” says ECOFEST’s Chief Organizer, Abu Bakarr Turay Esq, commonly known as The Kabaka and furthered that Sierra Leone before now suffered from a spotlight blackout. “This ECOFEST platform turns the beam to Sierra Leone and will be used to expose our talents as collaborations with other superstars will showcase an untapped talented base,” he said.
Artists performing will be divided into two groups. The artists, who will perform on the first day, will be performing under the theme “For Di Culture”. “We want to use this day to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Sierra Leone. Artistes from all regions representing each of the sixteen (16) Districts of Sierra Leone will be performing. We will have two of our greatest cultural musical legends in the persons of Steady Bongo and Amie Kallon also performing. To officially open the program, our Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary School Education, Dr. David Sengeh, will be performing alongside KME Record Label’s teenage sensation, Boii,” The Kabaka said.
