Former President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalist (SLAJ), and Managing Editor of Awoko Newspaper, Kelvin Lewis, has called on government to establish an Advertisement Act for the sustainability of media houses in the country.

Mr Lewis Thursday 28 October 2021 made the call while presenting a case for and on behalf of the media on African Young Voices’ news and current affairs show – Wake-Up Sierra Leone – on the objectivities of maintaining proper media housing in the Sierra Leone.

He said that there are lots of industries, agencies, shop owners in Sierra Leone who do not advertise with media houses but are making huge money in the country.

According to Mr Lewis, media houses can’t run without advertisements, especially in Sierra Leone, and that is contributing immensely to media poverty in the country. He said that in other countries where advertisements Acts have been passed, media houses are being sustained.
