A pregnant woman, three children and a man were on Wednesday 10^th May 2023 reportedly dead due to heavy torrential rains at Bonkole, Cline Town in the East of Freetown.

According to eyewitness report, death laid his ice hands on them, when the fence in the compound they were residing collapsed on them as a result of the heavy down poured of rain.

Report reaching this press has it that in the early hours of   Wednesday, the former Mayor of Freetown City Council (FCC) Yvonne Aki Sawyer visited the bereaved families just after the heavy down poured of rains and delivered a small purse as support towards the funeral.

Disasters of such nature, according to the Former Mayor are most time associated with poor land planning, construction of residential buildings without permit from the appropriate ministry and extensive deforestation and poor management of wastes.

‘’I will continue to advocate for the devolution of land use planning, building regulations, and building permits to all local councils so that construction, especially in hillside communities can be better regulated’’. Yvonne Aki sawyer.
