As government through cabinet and the House of Parliament have recently approved the 120 megawatts Bikongor hydro electricity project Sierra Leone is certainly on the verge of meeting a sustainable energy reforms. The Bikongor Waterfall which is definitely going to offer clean energy is situated in Gorama Mende Chief, Kenema district in the East of Sierra Leone. And when fully completed, the 120 megawatts hydro electricity will deliver the entire country from the long suffering lack of sustainable energy capacity and open doors for industrialization.

 

The governing Sierra Leone People’s Party National Secretary General who also doubles as the Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Umaru Napoleon Koroma confirmed government’s firm determinations in addressing the country’s energy challenges.

 

Koroma said; “He never promised a quick fix, but he is determined to fix it once and for all,” and adds, “for over fifty years our country has been talking about the hydro potential of the Bikongor Waterfall.”

 

He observed that past presidents studied several reports on the Bikongor Waterfall and shelved them, but President Julius Maada Bio in his relentless push to achieve sustainable energy capacity in the country, has recently approved the Bikongor power hydro project.

 

As the country’s most ambitious energy project ever, the Bikongor hydro electricity venture is sets to generate 120 megawatts, with huge potentials of electrifying the entire country and sell clean energy to neighbouring countries.

 

In view of actualizing that president Bio accompanied by the Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay along with Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority experts, have recently paid a working visit to the 120 megawatts electricity hydro project site in Gorama Mende Chiefdom east of Sierra Leone, in a bid to improve access to energy.

 

With energy transformation gaining steady momentum in Sierra Leone, Alhaji Kanja Sesay reassured that; “We shall definitely get there.
