The DIB Iron Ladies have declared their support for Dr Ibrahim Bangura’s bid to become the presidential flagbearer of the All People’s Congress, describing him as a unifying figure capable of steering Sierra Leone through its current challenges.
Speaking in Freetown, the group’s leader, Madam Jeneba Sesay, said the country is facing difficult times marked by hardship, neglect, and frustration, and called for a leader with clarity of purpose and commitment to national progress.
According to her, Dr Bangura represents a new direction built on unity and transformation. She said his message of heal, unite, build reflects a leadership approach that prioritizes national cohesion and inclusive development.
Madam Sesay noted that Dr Bangura’s leadership style is rooted in integrity and a strong sense of responsibility to all citizens, regardless of their background. She emphasized that his vision is not limited to political ambition but extends to rebuilding trust and fostering a sense of shared purpose across the country.
The group also highlighted his professional background, pointing to his experience as a security and peace expert who has worked with international institutions such as the European Union, African Union, and ECOWAS. They said this exposure has equipped him with the skills and insight needed to address complex national issues.
At the local level, Madam Sesay referenced his contributions to education, particularly his role in teaching and mentoring students at the University of Sierra Leone. She said his engagement with young people demonstrates a commitment to nurturing future leaders and strengthening national capacity.
Addressing economic concerns, the DIB Iron Ladies said the country’s current situation requires bold and practical solutions. Madam Sesay described Dr Bangura’s approach as focused on job creation, skills development, and attracting investment, with the aim of improving living standards and restoring confidence in the economy.
She added that his plans are grounded in realistic strategies designed to benefit ordinary citizens, stressing that his focus remains on long term growth and stability rather than short term political gains.
The group further praised Dr Bangura for promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance throughout his career. Madam Sesay said these values have earned him respect among supporters and positioned him as a leader who listens and engages with grassroots communities.
She also used the occasion to caution members of the All People’s Congress against selling their votes in the party’s upcoming lower level elections. She urged delegates to make decisions that reflect the long term interests of the country rather than immediate personal gain.
“Our power is in our vote. We must not trade our future for temporary benefits,” she said.
Looking ahead, the DIB Iron Ladies called on party delegates and supporters to rally behind Dr Bangura at the party’s 2026 national convention in Port Loko, as preparations continue for the 2028 presidential elections.
Madam Sesay expressed confidence that his leadership offers hope for national renewal, adding that the group will intensify grassroots mobilization and civic education efforts across the country in the coming weeks.
She concluded that the choice of leadership at this moment will play a critical role in shaping Sierra Leone’s future.
