The Government of Sierra Leone has received little recognitions from Diplomatic and Consular Missions in the country and their accredited countries since the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL), National Returning Officer and Chief Electoral Commissioner, Mohamed Kenewui Konneh announced Julius Maada Bio as president.

 

A Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation leaked Note Verbale to all diplomatic and consular missions, the line ministry called on all diplomatic and consular missions ‘to kindly transmit to their respective capitals accordingly refer to the recently concluded Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Government elections held in Sierra Leone on the 24th June 2023 elections conducted in a free , fair, credible and transparent atmosphere in which His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio was re-elected and consequently sworn in as President of the Republic of Sierra Leone.’

 

The leaked Note Verbale informs that Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation therefore avail itself of the opportunity to renew all Diplomatic and Consular Missions in Freetown the highest assurance.

 

It could be recalled that the main opposition, All People’s Congress (APC) party has questioned the just concluded 24th June presidential result announced by Mohamed K. Konneh, pointing out grave irregularities in the tallying and tabulation processes of the controversial results that declared Julius Maada Bio as president.

 

National Election Watch (NEW), consisting of consortium of Civil Society Organizations and Non-Governmental Organizations across the country through their Result Verification for Transparency (PRVT) methodology, raised eyebrow over process and exposed the lack of transparency in the tallying and tabulation of the results, with regional and international observers  in their reports shared similar sentiments.
