Former Member of Parliament for Bombali North Constituency in Karene District, Hon. Amara Alkalie Kamara has last Friday 10 February 2023 declared his intention to run for the flagbearer of the All People’s Congress (APC) ahead of the June 24 2023 multitier elections.

The former APC MP hailed from Kamawanka town in the Sella Limba Chiefdom, Karene District. He is an Electrical Engineer by profession with a Master of Science (MSc.) Degree.

He worked as an Electrical Engineer at the then Sierra Leone Electricity Corporation (SLEC) now EDSA for five years-1977-1982 and later joined the APC as an ordinary member in 1962. In 1986, Hon. Amara contested, won and became a Member of Parliament for six years.

Declaring his candidacy for the APC standard bearer at the party’s national Secretariat on 11A Railway Line Brookfields, Hon. Kamara recalled that he played a significant mediation role to negotiate peace between Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma and Mr. M. L. Bangura and his group before Mr. Ernest Bai Koroma became President of Sierra Leone in 2007.

He said he has continued with the peace mediation role in the APC even after the 2018 elections. “I have headed a group of loyal and committed APC members as Chairman of the Peace Facilitation Group, which negotiated peace between the former national executive of the party and the National Reformation Movement (N. R.M.).

These negotiations led to the signing of the MOU between the NRM, former national executive and Stakeholders of the Party and the adoption of the APC  2022 Constitution in Makeni at a meeting chaired by the former President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma. The Peace Facilitation Group has successfully negotiated peace between factions and members of the APC Party.

The latest is the peace settlement between our Former President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma and Mr. Alfred Peter Conteh, Chairman of ITGC in Makeni last week,” Hon. Kamara told journalists. He said if elected he will reunite and reconcile the country has been seriously divided over the last four years. He highlighted some of his plans to develop the country if elected.

He said he will work hard with his team to improve the economy, agriculture, education among others and called on delegates to give him the opportunity to serve his people. “I will work tirelessly to unite the people by giving more recognition to our traditional leaders, adding that they are the symbol of peace in their respective Chiefdoms.
