Abdul Robert Blessing Dumbuya

At this decisive moment in our nation’s history, Sierra Leone stands at a crossroads. The ongoing discussions around constitutional amendments are not just legal adjustments; they are matters that touch the very soul of our democracy. The Constitution is the people’s contract with their government, the safeguard of rights, and the foundation of justice. To alter it without broad consultation and genuine consensus is to risk undermining the trust that binds citizens together.

Dr. Ibrahim Bangura calls upon the Government to cushion the way and manner in which these issues are being handled. The people are feeling the pain of exclusion, of decisions made without their voices, of a process that seems rushed and imposed rather than nurtured and owned by the citizens. Sierra Leoneans have endured hardship, conflict, and sacrifice. They deserve a constitutional process that reflects their hopes, not their fears; their unity, not their division.

This is a now or never moment. If we fail to act with wisdom and patriotism, we risk sowing seeds of mistrust that could haunt generations. If we succeed, we will leave behind a legacy of strength, justice, and national pride. Let us put country first.

We therefore call on:

– All College Flagbearer Aspirants to stand firm and demand inclusivity.

– The APC General Membership to engage constructively but insist on fairness.

– The Citizens of Sierra Leone to pay attention, speak out, and participate actively.

The pain of the people is real: rising costs of living, unemployment, young graduates without opportunities, families struggling to survive. To add constitutional uncertainty to these burdens is to deepen wounds that are yet to heal. The Government must recognize this pain and act with compassion, humility, and responsibility.

Constitutions are not written for governments; they are written for citizens. They are not tools of power but shields of justice. Sierra Leone deserves a Constitution that reflects the dignity, resilience, and aspirations of its people. Let us rise above party lines and personal ambitions. Let us put Sierra Leone first.
