Police in Port Loko have intercepted a vehicle at the Maforki Checkpoint and seized a quantity of substances suspected to be Tapentadol, Tramadol and Kush.
The incident occurred on Sunday, September 20, 2026, during a routine checkpoint operation conducted by police personnel attached to the Maforki Checkpoint within the Port Loko Police Division.
According to the police, officers stopped and searched a vehicle with registration number AXR 027 during the operation.
The vehicle was reportedly being driven by Mohamed Lamin Kamara, a resident of Rokupr.
During the search, officers discovered 170 tablets suspected to be Tapentadol or Tramadol, with each tablet reportedly marked as 250 milligrams.
Police also found eight plastic sachets containing a substance suspected to be Kush.
Following the discovery, police arrested Alhajie Lamin Kamara in connection with the seized substances.
The circumstances surrounding the seizure and the roles of the individuals involved are currently under investigation.
Police have not yet disclosed the intended destination of the substances or where they were allegedly obtained. The exact composition of the seized materials is also expected to be established through further investigation and relevant testing.
The interception comes as law enforcement agencies continue efforts to prevent the movement and distribution of drugs and other controlled substances across Sierra Leone.
Checkpoints along major roads remain an important part of police operations aimed at detecting suspicious activities and preventing illegal substances from being transported between communities.
The Maforki Checkpoint is located within the Port Loko Division and serves as one of the points where police conduct routine checks on vehicles and passengers travelling through the area.
