Following the Sierra Leone Meteorological Agency (SLMet) dust storm alert issued on 2nd February 2024, the agency wishes to inform the general public that there has been continuous monitoring of temperature trends, relative humidity, dusty dry air, air quality elements etc. using satellite imageries, diverse instruments, and several models on a daily basis and is pleased to inform the entire public on the following:

There has been a considerable decrease in the amount of dust particles in the atmosphere across the country, as depicted by the images following this release.

However, there is still an increase in temperature across the entire country, which is above normal for this particular period,  especially between 12 pm and 3 pm, respectively.

Also, the amount of water vapour in the atmosphere continues to be on the increase.

Based on the above monitored trend highlighted above, the Sierra Leone Meteorological Agency is recommending the following:

People are encouraged to stay hydrated, seek shade, or air-conditioning where applicable.

It is also recommended to wear lightweight and breathable clothing and use Sunscreens.

Similarly, it is glaring that pets can suffer from heat stress, too. It is advised to keep them hydrated, provide shade, and avoid leaving them in hot cars.To this end, the agency wishes to reassure the general public of its unfettered commitment to providing reliable, coherent, and timely information to Sierra Leone and requests that citizens continue to monitor SLMet Weather Alerts.
